BRIEF-STRATEGIC THERAPY
LEVEL I CERTIFICATION

Brief-strategic therapy is an advanced psychotherapeutic model that produces rapid and sustainable change in difficult to treat problems. The model was developed in Italy and has a proven track record of helping people quickly overcome such problems as eating disorders, anxiety, panic, phobia, obsessive-compulsive disorder, delusions, depression, oppositional-defiance, and disruptive behavior in children.

This advanced technology allows the trained therapist to become confident in their abilities to treat difficult problems and establish themselves as effective and efficient healers. Positive change can begin to occur in as little as one session using these advanced techniques. More than simply another tool in your toolbox, brief-strategic therapy is a comprehensive model for understanding and resolving a wide variety of common presenting problems from Anxiety to Zoophobia.

The Family Therapy Institute in San Diego offers a complete certification series in Brief-Strategic Therapy. Full certification is a four-level process that typically takes four years to complete. However, participants can begin to notice improvements in their effectiveness in the first year.

Level I certification involves training in the basic theoretical foundation of the model. Participants will learn how common problems become established and the typical responses that are offered from patients, family members and mental health professionals. Participants will learn new methods to quickly assess problems and begin a process of change within the very first session. The basic interventions of the model will be presented and participants will have the opportunity to present their own actual cases to the training group for assistance.

Qualifications for participation: The certification program is designed for all levels of mental health professionals. Participants minimally must be graduate students in marriage and family therapy, psychology, or social work to enroll in Level I. Level II & III enrollment will further minimally require registration with a state board (BBS, BOP) as an MFT intern, psych. asst, associate clinical social worker, or full licensure. Level IV certification is for licensed mental health professionals who have completed levels I, II, and III.

Cost: The total cost of Level I certification is $1,250 (can be paid in monthly installments of $100).

Format: Level I certification is conducted in small groups of 5-6 participants that meet twice a month for two-hours. The duration of Level I is 12 months.
